1. intitial research into automatism and abstract expressionist movement - the idea of using art as a form of theraputic expression gave me a starting point for my physical work to explore the more specific theme of my personal relationship with art
2. research on the writing cure influincing idea of a visual diary - researching the writing cure alongside abstract expressionists gave me the idea of keeping a visual diary 'the drawing cure'
3. experimenting with different media, what did I enjoy the most - I really enjoyed the tangible textural methods of mark making specifically paint and thick pencils as a pose to pens and sharp pencils. I like the feeling of pressing hard on the paper and scribbling and making mess.
4. completing first sketchbook and evaluating my approach and progress - sometimes forgot to draw everyday but when I did remember it was an enjoyable little activity, I'd go through periords of one style of work at times like collage and I found this grouding and enyoable. part of me was still trying to make the sketchbook look 'good'
5. experimenting with more media what did I find most expressive - discovered how much I enjoyed oil pastels and really loved scribbling and feeling the pressure of them. the media I found most theraputic was media I could physically push emotion into
6. was there any reoccouring imagery? - interestingly a few things reoccured such as curved shape and wobbly shape, soothing.
7. wrote questionairres to get primary source research - wanted to expand the project to other peoples experiences, I also got them to draw how they felt that day and that was interesting
8. finishing my second sketchbook and evaluating my journey - trying to let go of aesthetics and focus on process for processses sake inspired by my research on succesfull art therapy was something very new to me and it took till the end of this second book to start getitng somewhere with it and letting go of old habits (in reference to art education research)
9. laying out the zine, and deciding wether to include text or not - wasnt sure wether to include text from questionairres or keep the work as a fully abstract piece with little purpose, but as I was making a final publication I wanted to include some of the feeling behind it without too much explanation. so people have an understanding of context and can then draw their own conclusion
10. final zine planned and printed
